Scenes From Burn 2

By Gemma Cleanslate

Burn2 is well under way. Twelve regions to explore and they are all full of marvelous builds and activities going on at various camp sites… some randomly so it is a good idea to be in the Burn2 group so you can get notices.

My recommendation for exploration is to stop first at the gate to check out all the gifts from past years and this year on the tables there. If the greeter is off duty look for the brown backpack to the right of the gate and grab all the fun gifts inside, fire, lamps, goggles and so much more to use on the playa and at home and parties.

To get a wonderful overview of all take the balloon ride set up by Bar Tenk right inside the gate. You can hop off anytime but it is the best way to see what there it to visit when you walk . You can see the stage locations and the Center camp where you can hang out. Art car drives around the playa are great fun as are horse rides. There is a horse rezzer in Deep Hole if you want to do that.

The Temple this year is colorful and beautiful.

“TourBalloon whispers: Here in front we have the Temple. The reading of messages and the following burn of the Temple marks the end of this years Burn2 experience. You can go and submit your own messages. Be it a wish, a greeting, poem, memory, sentiment, love-letter, expressing sorrow..... All is welcome.” The censer in the middle of the temple accepts notes, just follow the directions.Check the Who What Where https://www.burn2.org/curiouser/whowhatwhere/ to see what is taking place and the time. Don’t miss it .

You have lots of time to visit. It does not end until October 27 but the regions will remain for a few days after that to give time to get to see it all. The Man will burn Saturday at 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm SLT. The Temple will burn Sunday at the same times. Both will be spectacular.

The gate is at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Burning%20Man-%20Deep%20Hole/145/32/24

Here are some photos of some of the installations I found fun.

Lots of fun art cars to choose for riding on the playa. Look for rezzers and choose your favorite.

Moya , the famous French artist has one of his Moya specials that is fun to visit.

Organica always has a magnificent build and parties!

The Newser SL21B Exhibit, And A Few More

By Bixyl Shuftan

The Second Life Birthday, the SL21B is over. This year, yours truly wasn't able to get there as often as he wanted. But I still had a little time to get a few pictures.

As in all but the first SL Birthday's we've covered, the Newser had it's own exhbit, built by Silvia Ametza and her team, at SLB Incredible.

In the middle was a rotating globe, supported by two arches.

Silvia had set up something for people to guestimate the future of climate change.

The calculations depend on variables which can change.

There was a little lost puppy at the build, which would occasionally howl.

There was also an elevator that would take people to the lower, underwater level.

Silvia and her teammates,  Aimeelou Destiny and Kimblecoles Resident did great, as they always have in previous builds.

Before leaving, I would take a few more pictures of some other exhibits.

French artist Moya had an exhibit there.

See you at next year's SL Birthday.

Liquid Gold Dance Group Gallery And New Exhibit At Peale Museum

 By Gemma Cleanslate

Liquid Gold Dance Group has a lovely region for their activities. One of the buildings is a gallery owned by Lin Carlucci. October 2 I was invited to an opening for a good friend of mine, Beertje :. (Beertje Beaumont). I have known Beertje as a member of my Philosophy class for many years and also she is known for her beautiful fashion shop store, !!La Beaumonde ,where she has elegant gowns and jewelry on the Amsterdam Region. We also golf together most weeks.

I was unaware however what a marvelous real life artist she is. She has imported her real life art pieces into second life and are now on exhibit at Galley until January. Many of her pieces are done with texturing.

Several are hauntingly beautiful portraits from her work in real life. I was taken by her rendition of shore birds since I have been a birder for many years and will be putting them on my wall at home.

The reception was well attended and many friends were present . Her works are for sale at the gallery .Be sure to get her gift when you go. It is one of her jewelry sets, necklace, earrings, tiara for the ladies and a sweet carnation pin for the gents which I would certainly wear so I took it too. Here is the entrance.

Last week I went to a new exhibit at the Peale Museum that was very different. The Peale is a replica of the Peale Community Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. This exhibit by Leeboot is the very same exhibit they hosted recently in Baltimore and it has been imported to SL. Lee Boot is a painter and media artist. He is the Director of UMBC’s Imaging Research Center, and an affiliate Associate Professor in the Departments of Visual Arts and Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. His background is extensive and it is all explained at this exhibit which will be there more or less permanently.

As he talked about his background and his various life experiences and how they affected his art I felt I was looking into his expression of the mind and brain. There are many metaphors in the surreal images. You will see as you follow the arrows that there are explanatory videos along the way to help you understand how the art came to be and perhaps some meanings one would never recognize until the video explains it all.

It reminded me of stream of consciousness writing transferred into art.

Although Lee has been an artist for many years his work now is dedicated to how art can affect and assist young people and assist them mentally. He became a researcher in. how to use media to further the arts, public policy, importance of culture and how it drives human behavior and impacts the world. The videos will help to explain it all much more fully. Here is the entrance with the opening video,

Still More SLB Exhibits

 By Bixyl Shuftan

The Second Life Twentieth Birthday has now ended. The Lindens gave it a few more days, but nothing lasts forever. But yours truly went around to take a few pictures.

One exhibit that got my attention was Caledon's, which gave you a quest to help out it's Catgirl Brigade.

You would go to various characters, sometimes getting gear along the way.

Your objective was to get a piece of crystal for the Brigade, after which you (and they) could go home.

I got some diving gear and a souvenir jacket out of it.

Another that got my attention was Drama Liebre's "Doodletown" cartoonish exhibit.

This camera exhibit for photography in Second Life, "Focus on Photography," I recognized from a previous SLB.

"Racing Through Time"

A list of names, possibly drivers.

"A Java Island Journey"

There was a similar exhibit just across the road.

"Outpost 3020"

There was quite a lot to see. We may post some more pictures later. It was a great SL20B.
